Community Involvement

Bearsted Fayre

Training Centre students assist the Bearsted FAyre committee in selling of Fayre programs and raffle tickets throughout Maidstone. On the day of the Fayre students assist at various stalls and with logistics (i.e. float procession and pedestrian safety) for the event to run smoothly.

Educators’ dinner

This is an annual event at which students serve Christian educators in the Medway education departments by assisting CAST (Churches and Schools Together) host a special dinner. Students  decorating, entertain and serve the educators to encourage and thank them for the work they do in educating the youth.

Community work

Various projects and help have been provided by past and present Training Centre students all over the world. Missions to Jamaica, Kenya, Scotland and Plymouth are just a few examples where students have assisted in projects to educate, encourage and improve the lives and conditions of people all over the world. Assistance has been in the form of provision of health care, painting and fixing of homes and distribution of food and other necessary products to those in need.

Music on the Green

This annual community event on the Bearsted Green was the location for the youth-orientated event known as ‘B-side’ for the first time in 2006. Jubilee Training Centre students organised and ran this alternative location for the youth at Music on the Green to enjoy a variety of games, refreshments, meeting new people and just having a great time whilst their parents did the same.

Community Involvement - Youth

Kids Club

For the 6th year running, Jubilee Training Centre presents its community-orientated ‘Kids Club’ at the Memorial Hall, Bearsted, in February 2007. This event offers a week of fun, learning and excitement for children of Maidstone between 3 and 8 years. Parents are also catered for at the Coffee Bar where free coffee, tea, cake and a friendly environment are on offer for them to enjoy if they wish to wait for their children. All funds raised from the event are donated to local charities.

Schools work (Oxygen)

‘Oxygen’ is a weekly lunch time club run at Valley Park/Invicta Community School every Tuesday and is based on friendship, fun and sometimes food! It is a time where the pupils can come and just be themselves, where they won’t be judged and can ask any questions about life that they may have. One of the aims of the club is to gradually build the childrens’ confidence in themselves, encourage good team work, respect and responsibility toward others.

Tornado

This is a weeklong activities event presented in Valley Park/Invicta Community School by the Training Centre students. Children are divided into three groups (i.e Music, Drama, Art) and explore and practice practical skills in these different creative avenues.

Assemblies

Assemblies are presented every Friday morning for five weeks at Valley Park/Invicta Community School. Susan Harmon, CAST (Churches & Schools Together) co-ordinator, invites the Jubilee Training Centre students to participate and present either a dance or drama which is a great opportunity for them to interact with the Valley Park pupils.
